It’s an absolute honour today to be sharing my review for An Unwanted Guest as part of the blog tour and I send huge thanks to Anne Cater for the opportunity.
We can’t choose the strangers we meet.
As the guests arrive at beautiful, remote Mitchell’s Inn, they’re all looking forward to a relaxing weekend deep in the forest, miles from anywhere. They watch their fellow guests with interest, from a polite distance.
Usually we can avoid the people who make us nervous, make us afraid.
With a violent storm raging, the group finds itself completely cut off from the outside world. Nobody can get in – or out. And then the first body is found . . . and the horrifying truth comes to light. There’s a killer among them – and nowhere to run.
Until we find ourselves in a situation we can’t escape. Trapped.
Oh my giddy aunt, what an absolute cracker this book is. I had high hopes for this book after reading and absolutely loving The Couple Next Door and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
Slowly and cleverly we are introduced to the guests of Mitchell’s Inn, the author takes the time for the reader to get to know the characters and the surroundings before the book really takes off with the mystery which I loved.
The setting is wonderful, and the descriptions of the hotel and surrounding grounds were so easy to picture in my mind. I almost felt like I was there or like it was a place I had been to in real life. It was actually quite unsettling considering how the story goes although I’d still visit Mitchell’s Inn if it was real, just not when it was snowing.
An Unwanted Guest is a brilliant murder mystery and I really enjoyed playing detective as I read along. I did guess quite early on who the suspect was but then there were plenty of red herrings thrown in so i was doubting myself quite often but I could never have guessed the reasons why which were a real surprise.
I raced through this story and was desperate to find out the ending, it really captivated me and drew me in and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It’s a real cracker of a story and one that I will be highly recommending.
