It’s pleasure to be sharing my review today of this absolutely magical book The House of Sorrowing Stars by Beth Cartwright as part of the tour, huge thanks to Del Rey Books for the gifted copy.

Alone on an island, surrounded by flowers that shine as dusk begins to fall, sits an old, faded house. Rooms cannot be rented here, and visits are only for those haunted by the memory of loss.
When Liddy receives an invitation, she thinks there must be some mistake – she’s never experienced loss. But with her curiosity stirred, and no other way to escape a life in which she feels trapped, she decides to accept.
Once there, she meets Vivienne, a beautiful, austere woman whose glare leaves Liddy unsettled; Ben, the reserved gardener; and Raphael, the enigmatic keymaker. If Liddy is to discover her true purpose in the house, she must find the root of their sorrow – but the house won’t give up its secrets so easily….
My thoughts
Just going by the description of the book I just knew I was going to love it, I didn’t realise just how much though and I couldn’t put the book down.
This story is one that got right under my skin, it’s a story about loss, grief and about secrets. It’s really actually quite hard to describe, it’s magical yet real, it’s sad yet uplifting, it’s the sort of book you just want to sit and hug after you’ve finished.
The characters are wonderful, I just adored Liddy and Ben the gardener was just lovely, so patient and kind. I loved following Liddy on her journey and the people she met along the way.
So many times through out this book I could feel the lump forming in my throat, there is a real sadness to some of it but there’s also hope and love. There’s a touch of romance too which I enjoyed. The house and Island were just amazing to try and imagine, I loved the descriptions and especially the library.
Beth Cartwright has written a story here that absolutely swept me away, it’s written in such a beautiful way and although it tackles some fragile subjects it’s done so, so well. It’s a timeless story that I will definitely reread and will be most definitely be recommending.
