Happy hump day, hope you’re week is going good so far. Today i’m sharing my review for Love Punked by Nia Lucas which was kidly gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.
About the book
When her life is irrevocably altered by a post-Rave tryst on her mother’s floral patio recliner, Erin Roberts’ long-standing relationship with Humiliation takes her down a path that’s not so much ‘less well trodden’, more ‘perilous descent down sheer cliffs’.
Armed with a fierce devotion to her best friend and the unrequited love for the boy she might have accidentally married at age seven, when Erin falls pregnant at sixteen, life veers off at a most unexpected tangent.
Her journey to adulthood is far from ordinary as Erin learns that protecting the hearts of those most precious to you isn’t balm enough when your Love Punked heart is as sore as your freshly tattooed arse.
Whilst raising football prodigies and trying not to get stuck in lifts with Social Work clients who hate her, Erin discovers that sometimes you have to circumnavigate the globe to find the very thing that was there all along.

With a beautiful cover and an intriguing blurb I was looking forward to reading Love Punked, I had planned on reading it over a couple of evenings and as i thought it was aimed at a younger audience ( I soon found out it wasn’t) I certainly didn’t expect to get so invested in Erin’s story and want to pick it up at every spare chance I got.
Growing up as a teenager myself in the 90’s reading Love Punked was like being taken back to those days. It’s tough being a teenager, the pressures of school, puberty, boys and then as we find out for Erin our main protagonist, when you throw sex into the equation things get very complicated indeed.
At age 16 Erin Roberts finds herself pregnant after a quick fumble in her parents garage with a drug dealer she only knows as Jay and life is turned on it’s head for the teenager. Deciding to carry on with the pregnancy being a teenage single mum isn’t going to be easy for Erin but I knew from the beginning of the book that Erin was a determined and feisty character that wouldn’t give up.
Obviously pregnancy and parenting means that Erin has to grow up very quickly but I loved how she kept her quirky character and really enjoyed watching her grow as the story unfolded.
Love Punked is filled with some wonderful characters, Erin really has some great friends and reading along I felt connected to them, I really wanted the best for them all.
I’m not going to go into the plot and spoil the story and surprises for anyone but I really wasn’t prepared for all the emotions I would feel through out this book. I was laughing, cringing and even had a wee tear in my eye at some points. It’s really an all rounder and thoroughly enjoyable.
With sex, drugs, alcohol and strong language I’d say Love Punked would appeal to an older audience, having initially thought it was aimed at a younger audience I now know I wouldn’t give it to my teenagers to read, not for a few years anyway.
I’m so pleased I read Love Punked, although I did find it a bit long at the time I was so sad when it ended. I wanted to keep on reading and follow more of Erin’s life. I definitely will and have been recommending this story and I can’t wait to read more from Nia Lucas, hopefully soon.
