I’m thrilled today to be on the blog tour for the fabulous Exquisite by Sarah Stovell published by Oenda Books. Below you can read my review and please check out all the other fab blogs on the blog tour as well.
About the book
Bo Luxton has it all – a loving family, a beautiful home in the Lake District, and a clutch of bestselling books to her name. Enter Alice Dark, an aspiring writer who is drifting through life, with a series of dead-end jobs and a freeloading boyfriend. When they meet at a writers’ retreat, the chemistry is instant, and a sinister relationship develops … Or does it? Breathlessly pacey, taut and terrifying, Exquisite is a startlingly original and unbalancing psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last page.
Exquisite is published by Orenda Books and you can buy a copy here.
My thoughts
Oh my giddy Aunt, I honestly don’t know where to start with this review. I finished this book a few days ago, I’ve read a couple more since then and Exquisite is still in my mind. I actually woke up at 4am after having a dream about the characters, it was so vivid I was convinced they were in my room. It’s not often I come across a book that has such an impact on me.
As you’ll see, the description for this book is short, it doesn’t give much away at all but it certainly drew me in. After finishing the book I can see why it was kept short, I don’t think there’s anything that could be added that wouldn’t spoil the story. So I’m going to keep this review short and sweet as I don’t want to give anything away either. Also isn’t the cover just fabulous, so dark yet inviting.
The story is told from the point of view of both characters, slowly, slowly you get to see how each tell the tale and how much of a mind bender Sarah Stovell is. Honestly I was questioning my own sanity at many points through out the book and just couldn’t see the out come at all.
This is honestly a book that has to be read if you’re a fan on psychological thrillers, it’s not fast paced but its written so wonderfully that it keeps you totally captivated, it’s intense and I found myself holding my breath and furiously turning pages until I got to the last few chapters, then I kept putting the book down. I’d go make a coffee, pick it up again, go let the dog out, pick it up again and so on, I just didn’t want it to end. Does anyone else do that or am I just crazy? No actually don’t answer that 😉
So if you haven’t guessed already, I absolutely loved this book and will definitely be recommending it to everyone. To sum it up in one word I’d say it was EXQUISITE. Sorry I couldn’t resist.
I wanted to use the line about it being exquisite, you beat me to it lol.
Great review, great book.
