Today I’m thrilled to be part of the blog tour for The Silence by Katharine Johnson which is hosted by EmmaTheLittleBookworm. Make sure to check out the other blogs on the tour for some fab guest posts and more reviews.

About the book

Doctor Abby Fenton has a rewarding career, a loving family, an enviable lifestyle – and a secret that could destroy everything.

When human remains are discovered in the grounds of an idyllic Tuscan holiday home she is forced to confront the memories she has suppressed until now and relive the summer she spent at the villa in 1992. A summer that ended in tragedy. The nearer she gets to the truth the closer she comes to losing her sanity.

In order to hold onto the people she loves most, she must make sure they never discover what she did. But the reappearance of someone else from that summer threatens to blow her secret wide open.

My thoughts

When I read the description for this I was really intrigued to find out more . I wanted to know what Abby’s secret was and how she was going to keep it hidden, I love when a description grabs my interest like this.

Set in the present day, Abby lives with her husband and children in the UK. She has a happy life until a newspaper article reports the discovery of two bodies in a Tuscan village and Abby’s life is turned upside down. We are taken back to 1992 throughout the book where Abby spent time with her Aunt, Uncle and two cousins in the Tuscan village and this is where many secrets are revealed.

Katharine Johnson has written a story that captivates. It really draws you in and I particularly enjoyed the memories from 1992. The description of the Tuscan village, the house and the old church all came to life very easily. We get to know each character as they develop through the story and gradually their secrets are revealed. I liked Abby and Philippa’s relationship, they were like chalk and cheese but formed a solid bond.

I’m not going to say anymore about the plot for The Silence as I really think this is a book that just needs to be read. It’s full of surprises, twists and turns and I couldn’t get through the pages quick enough. Its one of those books that you devour until the last couple of chapters and then slow right down because you don’t want it to end.

As you can probably tell I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be recommending it, I’m looking forward to reading more from Katharine Johnson in the future.
